Feedback Needed !!

As we are at the end of the Summer half term can I please ask readers of the Darlinghurst BLOG for some feedback please.

What do you think of it?

If you like or even dislike the way we do things, could you please let us know via our guestbook, which can be found here. Your opinions are important to us, it would be great to hear them.

Thank you very much

So, what has been happening during the last week of half term at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?

RW - Mrs Weston - RW have come to the end of our Patterns theme. This week, we made clay animals then painted them with their appropriate patterns. We played the 'Flower game' with our high frequency words and solved addition and subtraction problems involving numbers from 1-20. We sorted healthy and unhealthy foods into a Venn Diagram and talked about the physical exercise we could do to keep healthy. We also turned our role play area into a 'Bat cave' where we sit quietly and read books with torches.

Have an enjoyable and safe half term, everyone!

RM - Mrs MacIntosh - RM have done lots of creative activities this week - they have made jungle animals out of clay and painted them and have also taken part in a competition where they drew a picture of themselves playing in our outdoor area. The children are really enjoying being outside so much in this lovely sunny but cooler weather.  RW and RM have also done music patterns this week, with instruments. I hope you have a lovely half term holiday and look forward to seeing you all for the last leg of the year!! Mrs McIntosh

1B - Mrs Barrington - We have really enjoyed our animal topic this term and have learnt so much..  We are really good  at reading animal poems and each of us has our own  favourite.  This week we also looked at bible stories from the old testament that included animals. The children have enjoyed  reading The Owl and the Pussy Cat  a classic poem written by Edward Lear.
To finish the week Mrs Thompson took the children outside for an animal picnic, this was really enjoyable and we have some great photos which will be on display at our class assembly on Fri 13th June.
I have given each child a slip which explains what clothing will be needed for our class assembly.  If you have any problems getting the items please let me know.
Next term our topic will be The Seaside Past and Present  this is a lovely topic and leads way to some great trips out and about to the beach and Maldon.
Have an great half term!

2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hello everybody!

I would like to congratulate you all, again for your sensible and grown up attitudes towards your long writing SATS task. You were all very focussed for quite a length of time and I am very proud of the effort you all made with your recounts of our visit to Ashlyns Farm. As with your postcards I am really looking forward to reading them all. The ones I have looked at so far are great!
Other than our SATS, you have made some brilliant animal masks, based on our trip with Student Teacher Miss Kenway, they are going to make a fantastic display in our class. At this point I would like to thank Miss Kenway, who has been working in our class for the past 4 weeks. The children have enjoyed having her here and I wish her luck with her studies.
Next half term we are going to be finding out all about "The Seaside". So, children, it would be great if you could find out as much as you can about the history of the local area. If you have any books, toys or any thing else about the seaside it would brilliant if you could bring them in to help with our learning.
We are also planning to go to the seaside at the end of the term. We normally have a great time and every year the sun shines for us, so fingers crossed!!

I hope that you all enjoy you week off, I know that I will.

Have fun and keep yourselves safe! - Miss Bernard

2/1D - Mrs Dutton - We have had a great fun week to finish our topic of 'Materials'. We have been thinking about how a very low temperature can change some materials so we put many different materials into the freezer to see what would happen after first making our predictions. To investigate how some foods can change, we also made and ate vanilla ice cream! We have also thought about how the wooden and straw buildings in 1666 burnt in the Great Fire of London by making up and acting out short dramas which were very entertaining! We have also finished writing about our trip to Ashlyn's Farm and we have started to subrract a 1 digit number from a 3 digit number. Have a good half term holiday everyone.

3S - Miss Slann - OH MY GOODNESS!!! What a fun week we've had creating and making our Viking museum ready for today and our visitors. We researched all week about the Viking way of life and thought about what activities would be fun to have in a working museum. Today the museum opened and we had lots of visitors come and watch and join in with making WANTED posters, wrestling our champion warrior Jade the Fierce, trying Viking bread, making helmets or rune stones and other fantastic activities. Both classes have worked tremendously hard and I think you have all learnt a lot from actually running the museum, well done!!! Have a great half term and don't forget your dinosaur research!

3P - Miss Peacher - Oh my what a week!!!!! Year 3 have been on special instructions this week from Archie Ollogyst, the curator of the Living History Dept. at The British Museum. They were asked to set up a living museum to show what life was like in Viking times. We had to plan what would be at the museum, advertise it and create all of the props etc. so we have been very busy. Well done parents for some creative last minute costumes! Thank you to everyone who visited the museum. It was a real success and we had some wonderful feedback. Thank again for your support.

4B - Miss Bolton - What a busy final week of this half term!
I have to say, I don't think I've ever had such a tidy class of children before. The end of term tray clear outs didn't take long at all with very little 'mess' coming out of them! However, despite doing this job regularly, a piece of Christmas work was still found in one tray!
The highlight of the week has definitely been out Bring and Buy Sale. Myself and Mr Bird did very little, with the children from both classes organising all the stuff that had come in and doing a fantastic job of laying it all out in the hall and pricing it up. From watching those that were selling, I think we might need to call Alan Sugar and tell him we have some budding business men and woman in year 4.
We raised a total of £180.18 from the sale bringing the grand total very close to the £350 that we need to bring the price of Kentwell Hall to £15 each. One more fundraising event after half term should do it.
Thank you all so much for your support with our fundraising and hope you all have a good half term.

4AB - Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - 4A/B I would like to start by thanking all those who donated items for the 'bring and buy' sale and those who purchased goods on Thursday. The whole process has enhanced the children's understanding of another aspect of 'real life' skills.
The class had fun experimenting with practical maths outside but do not get them to give you directions in French as it did take quite a time for the translation phase. However, maths in French is a big step forward and they all met the challenge.
The patterns for the children's Tudor outfits will be available on the Monday they return to school. Unfortunately it was not possible to attach the patterns to this document at the moment. Please do not hesitate to see me any afternoon of the week the children return if there is anything else you would like to know about their costumes.
Just to confirm there is no homework set for the holiday but please encourage them to continue reading throughout the break.

5J - Mrs Johnston - What super stars you are 5J.  The performance went really well - all the hard work paid off.
It might not be the summer holidays yet but you certainly deserve a rest over half term.
We wonder what fun and mayhem we will have when you come back!

5D - Mr Duff - This week I am only going to mention one thing, the Year 5 play. All of you were fantastic. The songs, your lines, the dancing, the men in tights (I shall say no more) !! Have a great week off and please remember to have your heads screwed on tightly on your return. The second half of the Summer term is just over 7 weeks long and is an important one. Enjoy your break and be safe.

6T - Mr Martin - We thoroughly enjoyed our art excursion to Old Leigh on Thursday, 22nd May.  You are probably aware that our school has been selected to provide artwork for the new medical centre at the top of Pavilion Drive.  The theme of the artwork is images to incapsulate Leigh - hence our visit.

Don't forget it is the Southend Airshow this bank holiday weekend. More information about this can be found here.

Enjoy your half term break.

Be safe

Guess what next week is?

No? Still struggling, it's Walk To School Week !!!

So, see how many days you can walk to school next week. The challenge has been set !

Well done to Year 6 for completing your SATS this week. Also, well done to Mr Martin, Mr Hautler and Mrs Chatterton as well !! It's a busy week and you have all coped very well.

What else has been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?

RM - Mrs McIntosh - We have had another busy week in RM continuing our theme of patterns.  We now have a jungle role play area in our classroom complete with a den, lots of animals, insects and dressing up outfits.  The jungle area is decorated with all the pictures the children have created of different animal patterns including tigers, zebras, snakes and giraffes.

We also made some play dough this week and have used it to try to make 3D jungle animals.  Next week we are going to make jungle animals from clay and when they are dry we will paint them.  Well done children you have all worked very hard.

RW - Mrs Weston - RW have continued with our patterns theme this week. We made a giraffe pattern in our art lessons, made repeated musical patterns with our bodies and musical instruments and looked at number patterns to 10.  We read a range of fiction books in guided reading and have handwritten tricky words in our handwriting sessions this week.

1B - Mrs Barrington - Class 1B have become a class of poets.  We have been looking at and writing poems based on the theme of animals.  We have even compared poems.  In numeracy we have been recognising odd and even numbers and even know a little rhyme to help us remember.  We have made the most of the good weather by playing outside, the other day we were moving like different animals around the playground which was funny.  To finish our work on animals, l hope to arrange for the end of the week, a soft toy animal picnic.  Please watch the classroom window for more information.  Any animal pictures greatly received.

 2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hi everybody!

It's been an unusual week for me, I've only taught one full day as we had our fantastic visit to Ashlyns Farm on Tuesday and I had to take the day off to have a tooth pulled out yesterday, ouch!!

May I congratulate you all on your behaviour on our visit to the farm.Even though we were delayed for a long time on the way there, nobody complained and you were very patient. You also behaved well when we got there, so well done!!

Next week you will be writing about your visit to the farm I am looking forward to reading all of your recounts. In numeracy we will be doing some basic number work involving addition and subtraction and looking at how to organise data onto graphs and charts.

Have a fabulous weekend! - Miss Bernard

2/1D - Mrs Dutton - How much fun can one class have in a week and be learning and experiencing new things too! On Tuesday we had a fantastic trip to Ashlyn's Farm and had the oportunity to touch and feed goats, sheep, chickens and pigs. We also had a tractor ride to see the electric fence which keeps the chickens safe from foxes and the compost area. We have started to write about the things that we enjoyed the most. Thanks to the parents who came with us to help us stay safe.
On Thursday, we had great fun thinking about how some materials are changed by heat while we made bread rolls. Mrs Clarke showed us all how to weigh, mix, kneed and shape the rolls. We could not believe how much the yeast made the dough rise when it was put in our warm cupboard!

3S - Miss Slann - What a hectic week we've had! We have been even more scary this week and have almost finished our stories. We've written some great endings that will both shock and surprise the reader! Well done 3S you have worked really hard on your stories, hope you don't have any nightmares though!!! We will be having a whole week of Viking fun next week to finish our topic off, don't forget to look up as much as you can about Viking life in Britain. Have a good weekend.

3P - Mrs Peacher - What a hectic week. We have all managed to write the ending to our spooky stories and I am pleased to say that many ended happily, even though Jacob decided to call his story 'World of Death'! Our Viking project is also drawing to a close so this week we have finished off lots of beautiful work for our topic folders. Next week is Viking week..... so watch out and hide your gold.

4B - Miss Bolton - What a week of contrasts. First we were all bathing in some early summer sunshine, with the class becoming rather lathargic in the temperature rise. Then having to deal with rain and wet playtimes, but a more awake class!
Another challenging week with in Numeracy and Literacy with trying to get to grips with measure angles with protractors and poetry by Judith Nicholls.

We have been collecting in your unwanted bits and bobs for the Bring and Buy Sale slowly and we've decided to organise it for next Thursday after school in the hall. We would like your continued support in having one last clear out over the weekend. We would also like to have a cake stall with some home made cakes. Refreshments will also be on sale.
Information will be on this weeks newsletter but please help by spreading the word amongst other parents in the playground.
Remember, the more money we make fundraising, the more we can subsidise our trip to Kentwell Hall.

4AB - Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - The children have produced some interesting work relating to the geographical differences between life in Chembakolli and Southend. Some illuminating discussion arose from this and the diversity of parents, guardians and relatives employment led to a clear 'real life' understanding of why these differences occur.
We are now preparing to start our build up for the Kentwell Hall visit. Useful patterns and ideas for Tudor clothing will follow shortly.

5J - Mrs Johnston - Rehearsals for next week are in full swing and we are really impressed with your word learning skills.
What is the probability that the all of you will remember your costumes for our assembly next week?  Something white please, loose and as long as possible - a sheet is ideal but a large t-shirt or short sleeved mans shirt will be OK.  Adults don't forget our assembly is in the hall at 9.15am Friday 23rd May.
Thanks also for all your hard work on Kidnapped this week you have produced some fantastic action scenes.

5D - Mr Duff - We're all going on a Summer holiday, no more working for a week or two. Well actually that's not true but keep practising this Cliff Richard classic for our play and don't forget "Grease" as well. You were fantastic today, I was really impressed with you all. Keep it up. Having covered probability this week in maths, what are the chances you will all know your lines and remember your costumes on Monday? Good chance I think. Your pieces of writing based on the book "kidnapped" were enjoyable to read and we will be continuing with this book next week. Next week is "walk to school week", so let's see how many of you can do it. Have a good weekend and see you all Monday !!

6HC - Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - On Monday we had our first set of sats tests in the morning we were really nervous. It was a science test! In the afternoon we did P.E.
On Tuesday we did more tests in the morning which were long writing, short writing and spelling. In the afternoon we sat at our desks and desighned our movie posters.
On Wednesday we did even more tests which was just a reading test which had some questions that were quite challenging. In the afternoon(after lunch) we did P.E. which was fun. We trained for the Borough Sports and did javelin throwing as well as long jump. On Thursday we had two more tests which were the maths A and Mental Maths. We are currently having a tanks competition.
On the last day of the week, Friday, we did our last sats test which was maths B. In the afternoon we had a year 6 party while other peolple had golden time. It was great!
Written by Ecko and Jack

6M - Mr Martin - We've made it!  The children have worked extremely hard and deserve a good rest.
In preparation for a our new topic of monsters, we are appealing for old newspapers.  Please can you bring these in from next week.  Don't forget we would also like to see your stuffed toys for our DT project.

A huge thank you from the year 6 team to all the children for their efforts this week.

So that brings a busy week to a close. One more week before half term

Enjoy your FA Cup weekend

Come on Pompey

The sun has got it's hat on, hip hip hooray, the has got it hat on and it's coming out to play.

Wow !! We are definitely in the Summer term now with this weather !!

It's been sunny all week and it's suppose to be sunny this weekend as well. Click here for the Leigh-on-Sea forecast.

Please remember to use lots of suntan lotion and drink lots of water !

So what's been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School this week?

RW - Mrs Weston - RW have had a great week continuing with their patterns theme. We looked at number patterns (in subtraction with number bonds to 10), continued with our animal pattern work creating a repeated pattern of a snake’s skin and carried the patterns topic through in our music, using our bodies to create repeated rhythms and playing instruments with repeated sounds. We also continued reading and writing our tricky words and looked at non fiction books during our guided reading sessions.

RM - Mrs McIntosh - RM have had a very exciting week this week.  Now the weather has really brightened up we have been able to use our outdoor classroom constantly.  The children have had bikes, water, sand, chalks, slides, books and writing and drawing activities to use in our Reception Area as a reflection of the activities that we use in the indoor classroom.  Needless to say most children have been very busy learning outside this week.

We have continued with our theme of patterns.  Following last weeks visit from our Mid Day Assistant with her snake, this week, we have created out own snake patterns which are now hanging up in the classroom.

We have continued to look at patterns in numeracy with our subtraction activities.  We have also been making patterns in music using the instruments.  Throughout the week we have also been very good at learning to read and write our tricky words.  The children are getting really good at remembering that our tricky words are not words that we can sound out they are words that we just have to know!!  WELL DONE CHILDREN!

1B - Mrs Barrington - Class 1B are still animal crackers.  This week we have been looking at animal poems.  The children have had some really good animal rhyming word ideas.  I hope you enjoyed hearing your child read the poem, I Want  we intend to use this poem in our class assembly which is on Fri 13th June. We've had good fun counting in fives and danced away to the rap song 5 x tables.  Now the weather is sunny please can l request every child has a sun hat which can remain in class each day.  This way we can go outside much more often and the children will have some protection.

2/1D - Mrs Dutton - We have enjoyed the warm weather this week and used the playground as a learning space to think about what materials have been used to build our school. We have also investigated the properties of ice - just right for hot days.We have been finishing our marvellous medicine stories and used our ICT skills to make a front cover for our stories. Our number work has been about number bonds, first to 10, then 100 and last to 20. We know them really well now! Keep your fingers crossed that we have warm weather for our trip to Ashlyn's Farm on Tuesday.

  2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hello everybody!

Well done! I am really happy with the positive way you have approached your SATS spellings and writing. Even the YR1's have joined in. Everybody always tries their best and I never hear anybody saying "I can't!" I am sure that you have all done well. Looking forward to marking them.

This week, we have also had fun baking cakes and looking at the effects of heating materials. You were very good at describing the before and after effects. We will be investigating heating further next week using chocolate.
I'm hoping that, by now, everybody is an expert with their number bonds to 10 and that some of you are just as good with number bonds to 20 and 100. You seemed to be getting quicker and quicker during our mental maths sessions.

I'm really looking forward to our trip to Ashlyns Organic Farm next week. I think that it's going to be a really fun day, I hope the beautiful weather continues?  We are also going to have lots of fun in Numeracy next week, we are doing Capacity, which is something I know you always enjoy.

Have a lovely weekend! - Miss Bernard

3P - Mrs Peacher - What a lovely week class 3P have had, we especially all enjoyed Monday!!! We have been working hard on our spooky stories and enjoyed thinking about using similes to describe our spooky settings. In science, we wrote up the results of our celery experiment and on Tuesday the children were amazed to see photosynthesis occuring in leaves. Mr Knight also taught the class a new word - osmosis. I wonder if any of them remember what it means??

3S - Miss Slann - We have had a fun filled four days this week writing our spooky stories and scaring each other witless! We have managd to write some really great settings and we even experienced what it would have been like walking towards our spooky house. We also made some super Viking houses and researched all of the objects that would have been in them. Finally our fleet of Viking longships are almost complete - so beware the Vikings are coming!!!!!

4B - Miss Bolton - What a lovely week its been in 4B. The sun has been shining, the class have worked hard and all smiling along the way!

In Numeracy we have been looking at directional work using compasses, in Literacy, comprehension skills and all has gone well.

The sunny weather is great but it brings out some extra issues to deal with. We will be completing some lessons next week on sun awareness. I will be encouraging children to bring in water bottles, hats and high factor sunscreen in the coming weeks.

Please also note that the next instalment of £5 is now due for our Kentwell Hall trip. Have a good weekend.

4AB - Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - Excellent work this week, 4A/B, your efforts are beginning to show with some really good maths results and interesting poetry that captured the spirit of a week of summer weather.

Everyone has displayed a great interest in the trials for Borough Sports and we are now in a position to start forming our combined year 4 team.

5J - Mrs Johnston - Well done, 5J, our visit to Leigh library was very successful.  You now know how to use the Dewey system - explain this to your parents!  You know what great places libraries are and they are FREE!  If you don't already have a ticket, nag your parents until they get you one - libraries are great places to go so you don't get bored in the holidays.  We were very proud when we were complimented on your excellent behaviour.

5D - Mr Duff - Your papier mache British Isles are looking good. The contours you have added in the hilly and mountainous regions of the UK are in the correct areas and we will be painting them next week. Your Hindu sacred symbols of the Swasticka were superb! I also learnt a few things myself about the history of this symbol. The display that was created from your work looks great. More Borough sports trials next week, get some throwing practise in over the weekend !! It going to be a hot one, so wear those hats and apply the suntan lotion, no red faces on Monday please.

6HC - Mr Hautler - This week we have been doing our last lessons of revision and getting ready for our SATS tests, next week. We have worked very hard to complete few practice tests to prepare us

We have also been doing fun activities in the afternoons, which includes having borough sports trials and designing ergonomic snacks and thier containers.
Overall this week it hasn't been too hard or too easy. - By Toby and Christiana

Next week is an important week for Year 6 as they will be doing their SATS.

So we wish you all the very best of luck !

Enjoy your weekend, BBQ time !!!

Keep cool

Year 4 are trying to raise money in order to subsidize a school trip to Kentwell Hall. They have thought of many fundraising ideas, many of which included making and selling food. This is all well and good but seeing that my classroom is opposite to 4B, the smell of freshly made popcorn, biscuits and flapjacks is driving me insane. At the moment I am trying to eat more heathily and this is just not helping ! So please support their next venture, which is a bring and buy sale, and put me out of my misery.

They are looking for old toys, games, soft toys, books, ornaments, nic-naks, cd's, un-used computer/playstation/psp/xbox games etc. Anything and everything welcome as long as it is clean, in good condition and full working order. All items to be handed into 4B. Thanks for all your help !

So what else has been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School this week?

RW - Mrs Weston - RW have been continuing their pattern work this week. We have painted a tiger pattern, looked at repeating patterns in music and have made a repeating shape pattern in the ICT suite. We have all been trying really hard to write our tricky words into sentences during our Literacy lessons and have been focusing on the different vocabulary to do with subtraction in Numeracy. We also played ‘tricky word’ and ‘number subtraction’ bingo which the children really enjoyed. Table tennis continued this week and Mrs Weston was very impressed with some of the children’s coordination in this lesson.

RM - Mrs Cooper - What a wonderful week we have had in RM this week.  We have been painting tiger stripes in readiness for our new jungle role play area.  Our Midday Assistant Wendy came in and showed us her snake, Tango.  Most of the children stroked the snake and some children were brave enough to even hold the snake. We have also been looking at shapes and If you come into our class room you will also see our giant shape robot.

On Friday we were very lucky enough to have Mr Duff’s class come in and share books with us.  Our children really enjoyed sharing books with the older children and are looking forward to them coming in every week - Mrs Cooper

1B - Mrs Barrington - Yes! Class 1B are continuing their work with animals.  In ICT we logged onto the RSPCA website.  It is a child friendly website and has lots to keep the children entertained.  As a class we watched the video about an RSPCA inspector.  This prompted lots of questions and discussion.  The children are producing some good factual writing relating to animals and l am looking forward to reading their homework sentences over the weekend.

The children became very confident at counting in tens during numeracy, this week we focused on tens and units which proved a little tricky to begin with.

2/1B - Mrs Dutton - We have had great fun this week finding out how to find a half and a quarter of shapes, numbers and amounts of money and we are getting very good at it. We have also been writing our own 'Marvellous Medicines'  with some very odd ingredients! We have been thinking about natural and man- made materials and sorting different materials. It was lovely to meet so many families at parents consultations too.

2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hello everybody!

This week the children have been writing their "Marvellous Medicine" stories and some of them have come up with some great ideas. Aaliyah is making her medicine for her sister because she is a "brute!", great vocabulary Aaliyah. Kaya is making her medicine for me and as she has not finished yet I have to wait to find out what she's got in store for me. The children really enjoyed listening to the story and this has inspired their writing.

In numeracy we have been investigating 2 and 3D shapes. The children have been very good at describing them. I have to mention Kaya again. You were excellent at drawing hidden shapes that I described, well done!!

Next week, linking with our Materials topic we are making a cake. We are investigating how materials change when they are heated up. I'm sure you'll all enjoy that experiment! In numeracy we will looking at numbers that make 10, 20 and 100. So get practising your number bonds!! In Literacy we are actually starting our SATS writing with a short task and I can not tell you what that is about, but I'm sure that you will all do well.

Enjoy your long weekend. I know I will!! - Miss Bernard

3P - Mrs Peacher - Class 3P have started their spooky story writing project and have been having a wicked time, ha ha ha ha!!! Don't have nightmares kids!! We also dissected some flowers this week and the children found it very interesting. It was very nice to have Nayeem back with us on Wednesday afternoon and he seemed to really enjoy being back with his friends. We wish him a speedy recovery now so that he can return to school full time as soon as possible. Also Mrs Peachers dog King will be an honourary member of 3P when he visits on Friday.

4AB - Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - This has been another week where the children have applied their theory knowledge to real life situatuations and yet again they have demonstrated their business acumen. Now that they have started to show their true potential you should be able get them to cook flapjacks to go with the popcorn and work out profit margins, ratios and pricing strategies.
We are thinking about sending a team to the Dragon's Den as they should do very well with their sales pitch.

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the consultations this week.

4B - Miss Bolton -This week seems to have flown past! Its been a challenging week with work all round too. In Literacy, we have been studying the life and poetry of Rudyard Kipling and in Numeracy, worded problems. The class have really risen to the challenges and have achieved some good results.
Tuesday we made about a 100 flapjacks and sold them on Wednesday as the fundraising continues. It got our best profit yet at £76. Grand total raised now is £136. We're a third of the way there already! It is good fun and is also generating a lot of real life maths too. Although, I don't think the school cleaners saw it as fun that evening, as there were flapjack crumbs throughout the whole building!
Thank you for all the 'Bring and Buy Sale' stuff that has come in already. Please help spread the word to other families in the school, the more stuff we get, the better.
Have a good long bank holiday weekend. See you all on Tuesday.

5J - Mrs Johnston - Isn't science wonderful!  On Thursday, some of the children were startled by the noisy thunderstorm. We reserached thunder so now the children know all about especially that light travels faster than sound.  We proved this rather dramatically today.  We sent several children to the end of the field to clap their hands.  At the school end of the field, the children were surprised that they could see their friends clapping but the heard the sound afterwards.  Try it for yourselves at the park!

5D - Mr Duff - Firstly I would like to say thank you to the parents that I saw on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was really nice to share the great things your children have been doing. Secondly, I would like to say well done to all the children that took the maths test on the new computer system we are trialing at the moment. You were so engrossed in what you were doing I had to call Mrs Chatterton in to show her how well you were working. We could hear you brains working! Your results also confirmed this. Well done !! Enjoy your long weekend and I will see you on Tuesday morning !

6HC - Mr Hautler - This week we have been doing science ,maths ,and literacy practice tests galore! These tests are to get us up and ready to go for our year six sats which we have all been dreading. So far we have done five practice tests. We will all have a ckearer idea about what our current levels are.

Also, we have been filming and creating our silver screen movies - great fun! There are only two more groups to create their movies .{We can`t wait to see what they look like.}

Next week will be even more revision and most probably practise sats tests. In addition to that, the afternoons are being filled with differant activities such as creating posters and having free time.

Over all this week has been a nail biting week as we only have one week untill sats! We are looking forward to having sats over and done with.

6M - Mr Martin - We're nearly there! SATs are just around the corner, so remember to keep up those early nights and good breakfasts to keep your energy levels up.

Chicken Run!  This week we have taken on a new project.  The school is going to hatch its very own chickens!   We have spent the week researching and designing chicken coops.  The brief was to design a pen which keeps the chicken safe from danger and comfortable enough to lay eggs.

So we have bring and buy sales, chicken runs, investigations into storms, spooky stories, just to name a few !

Busy busy busy at Darlinghurst at the moment.

Enjoy your loooooong weekend !

Have fun
