So the Summer term is upon us. This in itself seems very odd seeing that I built a snowman with my daughter just two weeks ago ?!?!

So what has been happening this week at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?
Most of Year 5 have been in the Isle of Wight !
Bring a dad to school day saw lots of dads, step-dads, uncles and grandads come in and help around the school, so a big thank you to you.
But was has been happening in the classrooms?
RM - Mrs McIntosh - This week RM have started their new topic of "patterns". We have looked at different patterns including seasons and the weather. The children have really enjoyed it and have really thought about the kind of things that happen in each of the seasons. Today is Bring a Dad to school day and the children are having great fun!
RW - Mrs Weston - RW have had a great week back and have started work on our new ‘patterns’ topic. We have looked at the pattern of the seasons and made a seasons wheel, looked at the pattern of the weather and made up our own weather maps. We even told our own weather forecasts in the classroom! We had a lovely response for Bring A Dad to School day. Thank you to all the dads who gave up their valuable time to come in and spend time with the children. It was very much appreciated.
1B - Mrs Barrington - We have the topic 'animals' this half term. Already we have painted animal habitats and made whale mobiles. Class 1B have also looked at a variety of animal foods and decided that we really didn't like the smell of fish flakes. In our numeracy we have been grouping objects and counting in multiples of ten. Next week we shall be counting in five's. Most of our literacy this half term will be non-fiction. Already we have written some information texts and produced questions relating to animals.
2/1D - Mrs Dutton - From Talking and Sharing Time It sounds as if everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break holiday and took part in a variety of activities with their families.
This term we are going to be thinking about the Topic of Materials and we have started this by finding out about twisting, bending squashing and stretching different substances to see if they stay changed or go back to their original shape. We havw also been thinking about the materials used to make buildings along time ago and how they caught fire easily in the Great Fire of London. With our dads help on Friday we have begun to turn our classroom into the bakery in Pudding Lane where the fire started!
2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hello everybody, welcome back! I hope that you enjoyed your spring break, I know that I did!
This week we have been looking at Materials. We are thinking about the different materials used to make objects, what they are like and why we might use these materials. We went for a walk and looked at buildings in the local environment, we took photographs. We discussed the materials used to make buildings and used the photographs to create our own pictures. We are currently designing and making pictures and items to create our role play area. This half term it is going to be the bakery where the Great Fire of
In Numeracy we have been doing place value up to hundreds, tens and units and rounding up/down to the nearest 10/100. The children have worked enthusiastically and it has shown because they have picked these concepts up really well. Next week we will be doing tables tests on the 2 times table. In class we are practising addition and finding the difference.
Have a lovely weekend! - Miss Bernard
3S - Miss Slann - First of all I would like to say a big thanks to all of the 'DUGS' (dads, uncles and grandads) that came into our class today. The children really enjoyed having you all in school and I hope that you enjoyed yourselves. I must say the children have produced the neatest Viking longships I've ever seen in year 3 before! Well done DUGS! The children have really thrown themselves into the
