That's it for the Spring term ! Gone before you know it. It has been action packed, creative, sporty and lots more besides.

So what's been happening during the last week of term at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?

RW - Mrs McIntosh -  RW have had a "different" week this week, with various things going on! We performed our "butterfly" dance on Tuesday to the rest of the school (which they loved) and planted cress into our caterpillars on Wednesday. The children will be bringing them home for the holiday's so don't forget to water them! (Photos and pictures will be welcome when we come back) Miss Wakeford (Mrs Weston) will be back after the holidays and everything will go back to normal! I hope you all have a lovely and restful Easter break! Mrs McIntosh

RM - Mrs Cooper - What a wonderful week we have had in RM ! We were lucky enough to be able to perform our life cycle of a butterfly dance to the whole school in assembly. We have planted cress seeds in the caterpillars we have made and hopefully over the holidays the children will be able to watch them grow ! Mrs Cooper

1B - Mrs Barrington - Class 1B have been continuing with their investigations into light and dark.  Mrs Barrington put different objects into a shoe box with a tiny peep hole and we had to try and see what was inside.  We discovered that if the peep hole was made bigger we could shine our torches and see inside because the bigger hole allowed more light  through.  Our numeracy was a little tricky this week as we had to subtract a number to a multiple of ten.  We did try very hard.  Class 1B are really looking forward to the summer term as we hope to go on some outings.

2/1B - Miss Bernard - Hello everybody! Happy holidays!

This week has been a bit strange. Because of the bank holidays it has been difficult to get into the swing of things. However we have managed to learn some things this week!

In Literacy we have done a little bit of work on non-fiction books and the use of titles, subtitles and captions. We have also investigated suffixes er and est. The children really enjoy suffix work and are very good at adding them on to words to make new words. They are also very good at remembering the rules for certain words. For example they know that if a word ends in a y you have to delete the y and add an i.

We have also been doing some problem solving using money. We had great fun this morning playing "Shop 'till you drop". The children worked in partners. They had £1 to spend. There were five shops situated around the class, selling different items. The children were only allowed to buy one item from each shop. The aim was to spend their £1 or get as close to it as possible. There were many things to think about because as they went around they had to decided which coins to use to buy the items and they also had to add up the items they had bought. The children worked really well together and had lots of fun.

I am looking forward to next term because our topic for the first half is Materials and for the second half it is The Seaside. I think that the children and I are going to think of many exciting things to do in class. I am also looking forward to our trip to Ashlyns Organic Farm.

Have a fun break children! Keep yourselves safe. See you in two weeks time! - Miss Bernard

2/1D - Mrs Dutton - Although we came to school on Tuesday with ears still full of Easter chocolate, we were able to clear them quickley and focus on our activities!. We have  enjoyed  thinking about division being the inverse of multiplication and we have been practising our sharing to divide cubes, dinosaurs and pencils. We have been thinking about how the characters felt in the Easter story by making our own dramas and we have been thinking again about life cycles with a visit to the pond to look at the plants and animals in this habitat.
Have a great school holiday, have fun with your families and I am looking forward to our next topic of 'Materials'already!

3S - Miss Slann - Oh goodness gracious me I think the chocolate filled children and teacher = lots of hard work e.g it took a lot of effort this week to write anything down!!! Luckily we were having a very cross curricular week looking at the Hindu religion. We have created some beautiful posters of Hindu gods in groups, well done for working so well together! We learnt about Hindu marriages and designed our own henna patterns and made rakhi bracelets for our friends to wish them luck. All of work will be displayed on the board outside our classroom for viewing! Have a great break.

4B - Miss Bolton - I can't believe we are at the end of the Spring term already. Where does the time go?! 4B have seriously worked their socks off this week and have tied up all loose ends and finished every single piece of work from this term. Well done! The year 4 teachers have been working away to plan some good work ready for next term and we're trying something a little different by linking as much work as possible to our geography topic of 'a village in India'. We are just finalising a big trip for the summer too, so watch this space for the exciting details.

Hope you all have a really good Easter break and look forward to seeing you all back in the summer term!

4A/B - Mr Bird + Mrs Amran -4 A/B  Trying to maintain a degree of normality for the children has not been that easy with two four day weeks leading up to a fortnight holiday. They appear to be ready for the break but have still managed to apply their analytical skills to what makes a good set of written instructions. You could put this to the test at home with your next set of DIY instructions by getting them to help!
The children have also been exercising their international expertise by adding French notation to the Spring display they are producing for the ICT room. Unfortunately the display is not quite ready yet, otherwise we could have invited the French President to open it during his State visit.
We hope you all have a pleasant break and ask you to keep up your reading to adults during the holiday please.

5J - Mrs Johnston - This week 5J have been working hard to find fractions of a number.  This has gone very successfully, they are really learning that their times tables knowledge is crucial to their numeracy work.  Please keep supporting your child with learning their tables as well as with their regualr reading.
Our work on Ancient Greece is coming to an end.  The children are becoming more skilled as researchers, understanding how we know what we do about the past.
I hope you all have a lovely holiday.
Our theme for next term is the British Isles.  Homework is for the children to ask about places they have been to on holiday or lived in and be able to find them on a map as well as knowing any famous landmarks in the area.

5D - Mr Duff - Where do I start ! You researched and then drew absolutely fantastic Ancient Greek warships. You designed and made excellent stain glass windows, which are now displayed around the windows of the classroom. Your skills in maths this week were great ! Fractions, remainders and multiplication didn't stand a case against our peer teachers. I could go on and on !! Not only that we have CBBC coming in to carry out auditions for a new Saturday morning kids show on Tuesday 22nd April. How cool is that !!! Anyway, have a great Easter holiday and for the children going to the Isle of Wight, have fun and be safe !

6HC - Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - For Class 6HC it has been revision as usual, maths, science and literacy. Only 15 school days until the big week!

By Wednesday, we had all the children cut out there Ginger Bread houses, and on Wednesday afternoon we had most of them decorated. We are going to spend most of the morning doing the rest. On Thursday we had decorated our  houses started to put them together. Check out our photos below !Written by Gabby and Sean

Yummy ! Those Ginger Bread houses look fantastic ! Well done to 6AH !!

Have a great Easter holiday, be safe and we will see you on Tuesday 15th April - unless you are in Year 5 and are going to the Isle of Wight !

Enjoy

Sorry for the last update of this weeks blog !

With the short week and then the long weekend time has been of the essence !

Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely Easter and didn't eat to much chocolate. I know for a fact if I eat another mini egg I am actually start to look like one !

Even though it was a short week, there was plenty going on at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School this week !

Miss Wakeford - RW - This week RW have been learning the 5 vowels and writing words beginning with those vowels into sentences. We have had a fun week making Easter cards, nests and decorated eggs and enjoyed the easter hunt on Thursday. Some of the children tasted hot cross buns today. Have a great Easter. Miss Wakeford

Mrs McIntosh - RM - What a wonderful, creative  week! The children have been having a ball! We made chick  Easter cards (they were hard work but great!), Easter nests (yummy!) and decorated hard bolied eggs (a lovely smell in the classroom!). Today the children went on an Easter hunt (organised by the PTA) and the children really enjoyed handing in their chick to get a chocolate treat in return! Have a lovely, long weekend everybody! Mrs M

Mrs Barrington - 1B - Class 1B have had lots of excitement with Easter egg hunts and a visit from two little baby rabbits.  This do not put stop to our data handling work in numeracy.  We are now very good at interpreting information from bar charts and pictograms.  In science we predicted which light source gave the best light.  Once again this led to more excitement  in Mrs Barrington's dark, dark tent when carrying out this investigation.

Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello everybody!!I would like to say that I am very proud of the way that the children have approached multiplication and division. The concepts involved are not easy for young children to understand. But they have showed real enthusiasm and I think that they have enjoyed their week.

WELL, enough of all that enjoyment!! For homework I have asked some of you to learn your 2 times tables for a test during the first week back after the Spring holidays, good luck!!

We have also started to write the Easter Story, which is, again, difficult for even grown ups to understand. But I never have any problems getting them to do their writing and we will be continuing next week. I have been thrown by the Easter Bank holiday weekend so there will be an extension on Easter.

The children will be setting up their own shops. Modelling eggs, pricing them up and selling them. So they will be doing lots of activities involving adding, taking away, multiplication, division and the use of money. So it should be a fun week!

Enjoy your long weekend!  I know I will! - Miss Bernard

Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - Another great week for learning! In Numeracy we have been finding out more about multiplication and division and in our writing time we have been thinking about the Easter Story  and the life cycles of people and frogs. We have also had fun finding out about the French words for Easter symbols and making baskets and cards, ready for our own family celebrations. Have a great weekend everyone.

Miss Bolton - 4B - What a fantastic week 4B have had! Everything has been Easter themed. We've read the Easter story, made chick baskets - hopefully, the cream egg was still in there when you got them at home?! But today has been the best, as Mrs McLachlan made super Easter cards with them and myself and Mr Lloyd made 60 hot cross buns with some of the class. Mr Lloyd, or was that Mr G Ramsey, I couldn't tell !!! Again, hopefully one should make its way home to you.

Thank you to all the parents that helped support their children with the speaking and listening homework that was given. We heard each presentation and they were not a bad concidering that had had no input from me and most had never done anything like that before. Next week, we will work on improving the structure and presentation of the talks and give the children some help with becoming expert speakers.
I hope everyone enjoys their long Easter weekend. See you all back on Tuesday.

Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - 4AB - Coming very soon...

Mrs Johnston - 5J - It was a short week but a busy one for 5J.  They created a stunning set of Stations of the Cross for the class, showing Jesus' trail and crucifixion.  They have done very well in writing myths, finding out exactly how much they can write in 6 minute bursts.  They designed bread for a special occasion - remember to bring in any extra ingredients on Friday when we will be making the bread then.  (The ingredients for the basic dough will be provided.)  Everyone enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt - many thanks to the PTA for organising this.

Mr Duff - 5D - Short week for 5D, very short week for Mr D ! Having been out for 1.5 days this week, I will say a huge well done to the children for their behaviour in my absence. The report I got from Mrs Cornish was superb, it was nearly as good as the bread that you made ! The drawing of the stain glass windows were great and I know that you will be getting a chance to use ink to make real stain glass windows next week !! It sounded like you enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and you were lucky enough to get even more egss from Mrs Evans !! Have a super Easter and enjoy your longggggg weekend.

Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6HC - This week in Literacy we learnt how to write instructions by making games and then writing instructions for them.In maths we were measuring angles. We used protractors to measure angles and figured out the missing angles in triangles. Some children went to a football tournament and did very well.Next week we will be cutting out the shapes for our gingerbread houses. Written by Charlie and James.

Well it was a busy short week last week and it will be the same again this week. Don't forget school finishes at 2:30pm on Friday !
View Article  Coffee Morning

Every day we see many of you standing in the playground chatting about how your little devil has behaved over the weekend, that morning or the night before.

You know you are not alone....but did you know you can have that same chat once a week, in a comfy environment with free coffee and cake but with a happier outcome?

Some of the parents you see everyday have already joined us to chat about ways to change our little devils into little angels and have enjoyed the sessions.

So, we are holding a casual coffee morning on 20th March at 10.30am where you can meet and talk to us to see if you too would like to join us.

Other parents who have been before will also be here to answer questions so you can see that they are great parents like you who just wanted to become parents.

If you'd like to come along on the 20th please let Mrs Corfield or Mrs Gourley know so we can have your coffee or tea ready.

You can e-mail us at lms.darlinghurst@hotmail.co.uk  telephone 509211 or catch us at the front gate between 8.30am and 9am, Monday to Thursday.

We can look forward to meeting you soon.

Guess what we did this week !!! Yes that's right, Sport Relief, how did you guess !!

Lots of different activites going on in the classrooms, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

Not only did the children enjoy themselves so did the adults ! I was impressed with Mr Martin running (not walking) the mile for Sport Relief, very energetic, shame he had to spoilt it by having his legs on show !

So a HUGE thank you to Miss Slann for organising such a great event today. You are a star !

So, what else has been happening this week at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School.

Miss Wakeford - RW - We have been reading and answering silly sentences this week in our phonics and Literacy sessions. We have also been independently writing a range of words onto whiteboards (something that we are getting very good at!) We have been working on the life cycle of the butterfly as part of our ‘Growing’ topic and have been learning a fabulous butterfly life cycle dance in P.E. We have also learnt about Sports Relief and why we are trying to raise money as a school. We learnt about ‘Giseli’, a little girl in Brazil whose life is very different to ours. For Sports Relief, we went for a walk around the perimeter of the playground with RM, then took part in some relay races. Thank you to all the parents for your contributions. As a class, we raised £16.05.

Mrs McIntosh - RM - This week RM have been looking at the life cycle of the caterpillar. The children have done some lovely paintings, number work and symmetry colouring of a butterfly. We have also shared some new books which I purchased from the book fair and we have loved them! Next week we will be doing lots of Easter activities. I have put a note in the window but can all the children bring in a cardboard egg box and a hard bolied egg on Monday. Thank you! Have a great weekend.

Mrs Barrington - 1B - Class 1B have been reading Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne.  This is a lovely story about a little girl called Handa who lives in Africa.  The children learnt about repeated patterns in their literacy writing and we also compared Handa's life to our own.  The story tells how Handa surprised her friend  Akeyo with a basket of fruit.  Well, class 1B acted out the story themselves and we had a great variety of fruits which most children tried.  Not many of us enjoyed the sweet -smelling guava.  We linked our fruit tasting into our numeracy by making bar charts of our favourite fruit.  We should all be very tired today after completing our mile long walk around the local area in addition to various fun activities in other classes.  All in aid of Sports Relief.  Thank you to those who helped on the walk.  London Marathon next!

Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - A  fantastic  week  for  times  tables!  We  have been  thinking  about  repeated  addition  being  the  same  as  'groups  of'  or   'lots  of'  and  then  relating  that  to  multiplication.  In  our  writing  we  have  been  using  speech  marks,  describing  words (adjectives)  and  time  connectives (words  to  show  time  is passing,  eg then,  later  next,  finally).  We  also  ad  a  great  trip  to  Chalkwell  Park  Methodist  Church  where  we  met  the  Minister  and  the  Organist.  We  asked  them  some  very  interesting  questions!

Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello everybody! We have been busy, as usual, this week. We have doing lots of counting on and back in 2's, 5's and 10's. Then moving on to 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Some children have found this work very challenging, however everybody tried their best. We have also been writing stories based on the African folk tale "Why Flies Buzz". The children were trying improve their writing by adding speech and interesting connectives. I am looking forward to reading them all.

We have also had great fun using the Beebots, which are programmable robots. We used them to investigate coordinates the children loved guiding them towards different landmarks on a map.

Next week we will doing lots of activities based the Easter theme. We will be reading and writing the Easter Story and making cards. This theme is also going to be extended into the following week.

Thanks for a lovely week! - Miss Bernard

Miss Slann - 3S - I hope everyone enjoyed their week of instruction writing!! I think that maybe we enjoyed decorating and eating our lovely biscuits more than actually writing about it afterwards. We have continued to learn about the Anglo- Saxons and found heard the next installment of the Beowulf saga - very gory!!! We've had a fantastic day today to end our week which was full of Sport Relief activities. We all experienced many new things like line dancing, table tennis vs a gorilla, yoga and tug of war!! We also all walked a mile around the school and some of us ran it!! A special well done to Jade A, Henry and Matthew who all ran from 3S - you nearly beat Year 6!!!! Have a relaxing weekend, don't forget the school trip on Monday!!

Mrs Peacher - 3P - This week class 3P decorated clown face biscuits and wrote instructions. The children said that the best part of this project was eating the biscuits!!! Well done to Charlie, Iona & Steven who all ran the Sport Relief mile. The children really enjoyed the Sport Relief events and the class were all very supportive of the charity. Don't forget the school trip on Monday. Children must be at school by 8:30 so that we can catch the bus.

Miss Bolton - 4B - Just when you think things are back to normal and a little calmer at Darlinghurst...along comes another fun packed week! 4B started making their own mini chairs this week, something we should have done ages ago. Better late than never though and the class have made a super start. Sports Relief has been the real highlight of the week. The whole school went and walked the mile and 3 from 4B ran it. Well done - you know who you are!4B did me proud too as they took part in a number of other sporty activities in the morning with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship.Next week? Normal? Not a chance! 4B are doing a full week of Easter themed lessons.Remember Friday is Good Friday and a day off from school :o)

Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - 4A/B - Following on from a geography task which the children have been engaged on during the past two weeks, all of the class now have a clear idea of what constitutes noise pollution and recyclable items. They were eager to use the monitors to measure decibel levels around the school and were somewhat surprised at the results. Additionally their careful disposal of rubbish into separate containers has provided the data needed to make informed suggestions about how we can become more environmentally aware.

Sport's Relief Day got off to a great start with our combination of runners and walkers rising to the challenge of the event. The children then went on to tackle a number of other physical activities which differed from their normal P.E. curriculum. 4 A/B set a good standard in the Tug-of-War organised by our class. There is no doubt at all that if they tackle all their school work with equal determination they will achieve most of the goals set.
All of the children clearly enjoyed the day and thank you for helping to raise money for this event.

Mr Johnston - 5J - We have been busy making bread with Mrs Lawler this week.  The results were edible and perhaps we should market a new loaf called 'Teacher's Pride!  The class have enjoyed learning about the battle of Marathon almost as much as Mr Bird who complemented them on their battle strategies.  I think we have a few potential generals in the ranks!Sports Relief has been great fun with 5J being able to take part in aerobics, limbo, a sports quiz, line dancing, table tennis and tug of war. The children returned to class somewhat quieter than they left - I think they will sleep well tonight - Mrs Johnston certainly will after a morning of aerobics!

Mr Duff - 5D - What is a "wiki"? Not sure, ask your children as they know, well they should ! You mignt be seeing one soon, watch this space ! Well done to the children that took the time to make a science project for the Westcliff High School for Girls science fair. Ellie, Tiegan and Sophie represented our class but we don't know the outcome yet as it was on Friday afternoon. We will find out Monday. Sport Relief was an excellent day and we all enjoyed ourselves, I particulary liked the paired Speed Stacks demonstrations you gave the class. Next week we will be making bread, so get ready to eat our offerings !
Don't forget this weekend is the last one to play Mathletics on www.WorldMathsDay.com See if you can beat Ben and CJ !! Have a super weekend and I will see you Monday for a 4 day week !

Mr Martin - 6T - Dear Darlinghurst! How exhausted are we?!  We had a very busy day taking part in various activities for Sports Relief.  Next week the hard work continues.  We will be starting to make our gingerbread houses and will be cooking some festive Easter treats.  We are well into the middle of our SATs revision, so remember to keep going to bed early and have a nutritious breakfast every day.

I feel like a lie down just reading those blogs ! Your children should rest well tonight !!

Have a fantastic weekend and don't forget next week is just a four day week at school !!

Enjoy

View Article  Week 8 Spring Term

What a week !! I am not sure where to start !! I promise to try and keep it brief !!

World Maths Day -
Lots of activities, all linked to maths going on all around the school. Fun and learning mixed into together made for a good recipe. I went around taking a "few" pictures so I could add them to the blog. To say I got a little snap happy would be understatement. So I have chosen a handful of the 57 pictures I took ! A huge thank you to Miss Bernard and Miss Bolton for arranging this great day and I will quickly mention that Mathletics (www.worldmathsday.com) was so popular that the website has decided to keep it open until the 16th March, which I know the children will be very pleased with !!

World Book Day -
Lots more activites, this time linked to reading and books. We had loads of parents, grandparents and other relatives come in and listen to readers, read things themselves and add to the importantance of this day. The children did class swaps, so they had the opportunity to listen to other year groups read and then in turn read to them. Finally the day ended with an assembly that all the classes took part in. Again, we have to thank Miss Wakeford and Mr Martin for all their efforts and we look forward to the same again next year !

We have received some lovely comments and feedback from parents on our guestbook about both days. So please take the time to read them and add some yourself !!

So, what has been happening in the classrooms this week at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery school?

Mrs McIntosh - RM - We have had an extremely busy week, what with the Maths day on Wednesday and World book day on Thursday! Well done to all those who managed to do some reading and get some sponsor money together! We had a great morning with some parents (and grandparents) yesterday and then enjoyed half an hour of sharing books with Mr Duff's class.
At the beginning of the week I did some assessments for high frequency words (words in their envelopes) - I'm pleased to say that nearly all of the children had improved!! Well done!
Next week we are looking at the life-cyle of butterflies and sharing "The very hungry caterpillar".
Have a great weekend!

Miss Wakeford - RW - We have had a very busy week writing captions, reading and writing silly sentences and reading lots of different books. We thoroughly enjoyed World Maths day and then World Book day where we solely had maths and reading activities out for the whole day. Well done to all of you who took part in the sponsored read. We raised lots of money! We are looking forward to next week when we will be looking at the butterfly life cycle as part of our ‘Growing’ topic and also to Friday’s Sports Relief day when we are allowed to wear something sporty to school!

Miss Barrington - 1B - There has been lots happening in school this week and all over the world.  Class 1B joined in with World Maths during their ict lesson.  We competed with children from America  and  Hong Kong  which was very exciting.  Then there was World Book day.  Class 1B were very lucky because year four children helped them to write their own books. This week lots of children have been very poorly so l hope to see everybody back at school on Monday fit and healthy.

Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - Well done to everyone this week. While I have been unwell Mrs Clarke and Miss Fletcher have told me how well you have worked using the alphabet to find out information from dictionaries and glossaries,  as well as thinking about compound words. You have also been finding out and practising subtracting and adding 9,10 and 11 from  2 digit numbers. Next week,  we  will be finding out which of our cress  seeds  have  grown  well  and  which  have  not  grown  at  all - will  our   predictions  be  correct?

Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello Everybody!

We have had a really fun week with both World Maths and Book Day. Thank you so much to parents and grandparents who came in to play number games and read to and with the children.I feel that your presence enhanced the children's enjoyment on both days.
The children got so excited when they played Mathletics, it was a real challenge and was a great tool for sharpening up their mental maths skills. It was also brilliant for international links.
The children also got very excited when they knew that the YR6 children were coming in to read with them. This is some thing that we hope will be continued.
Next week we are looking at a brilliant story from the African continent called "Why Flies Buzz". We will be using the story to investigate speech marks, so look out for them in your reading books and any other reading material you have at home, children. We are also revisiting multiplication and odd and even numbers in our Maths lessons. Do you think that you could practise counting on and back in 2's, 5's and 10's, children? This will really help you with your multiplication activities next week.

Thank you!   Enjoy your weekend! - Miss Bernard

Mrs Peacher - 3P - This week class 3P have really got involved in World Maths Day and World Book Day. For World Maths Day we set up our own Conservation Gift Shops. We had to design our shop, make the items to sell and work out a float for the till. We then invited year 5 to spend some money in our gift shops and at the end we worked out the profit. For World Book Day we looked at the Anglo-Saxon myth of Beowulf and the Grendel. The children all really enjoyed the gory story!!!

Miss Slann - 3S - Well what a week we've had!!!! Lots of different activities that have covered all areas of the curriculum. We really had fun using the World Maths Day website and beat lots of children from around the world with our snappy mental maths! We then spent the whole of Wednesday creating our 'Conservation Gift Shop', we decided on the things we should make and sell in our shop, made them and sold them to year 5. We had to make sure that they were reasonably priced, then gave discounts and finally gave our customers change. As well as all of this we have been learning about the Anglo Saxons. We read about the legendary Beowulf and have created some amazing pop up books that tell of his troubles when fighting 'Grendel' the gruesome monster! They look fantastic and will scare all that read them!!! Phew, well done 3S, I don't know about you but I'm exhausted!!!

Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - 4AB - This week has provided the opportunity for the children to participate in two major events. World Maths Day followed by World Book day were celebrated with a range of activities which everyone enjoyed. Two of their favourite times were when they shared a reading activity with the nursery group and the reading of their own fantasy stories, accompanied by some suitable drama skills.
We were very fortunate to be visited by Mrs Valencia from Southend High School on World Book Day. The children listened intently to her story in French and impressed her with their ability to answer questions about the content.
Next week brings yet another addition to our curriculum with our participation in the walk or run to mark Sport's Relief Day on Friday. Please make sure your children have suitable footwear for this event so that they can enjoy the day.

Miss Bolton - 4B - What a fun packed week!! Two exciting World learning days, maths and books. 4B loved taking part in the World Maths Day online games, playing other children from around the world in real time and contributing to breaking the record for maths questions answered this year on the site. I don't think 4B realised the amount of maths they were learning when they designed some new 'Homes for Gnomes' on that day also. The head gnome came and saw me yesterday to thank me for the lovely homes you designed. The gnomes are quite excited about getting them built and finally being able to move into them and out of their make-shift dens under the trees on our school field!
World Book Day was much fun too and 4B have become publishers of their own novels.
The next 2 weeks are full of exciting things too. Next Friday is Sports Relief and a morning of sporty activities are currently being planned around the school. The following week, we'll be having an Easter themed week which will include some RE, creative activities and if you're all good.....maybe some chocolate!!
Have a good weekend and don't forget those PE kits on Monday!

Mrs Johnston - 5J - We are really enjoying learning about the ancient Greeks.  This week they learned about why the Greek warriors were powerful.  Under Mr Bird's guidance they are experts at forming lines, moving with spears and rowing in triremes.  As one child said, "They did as they were told and trained." We are taking this message to heart in class, working on listening to instructions, following them and practising skills.

The children have been learning that they really need to know their times tables to enable them to divide effectively.  Please encourage your child to learn their times tables thoroughly.

Reading is improving.  Families keep up the good work and continue to hear your child read three or more times a week.

Mr Duff - 5D - We are the champions at Mathletics ! Our class answered over 13,000 questions this week and the good news is that we will be able to continue answering maths questions until the 16th March. Well done everyone ! Our reading at home is at it's highest and the children are are setting a fantanstic example within the school. You were super acting out the story of the Trojan horse, I thoroughly enjoyed watching your drama groups. Aaron was really impressed this week with your progress in table tennis and I equally impressed with you when we visited RM on Thursday morning to read to and listen to the reception children. How fun was that !

Overall a superb week all round ! Have a great weekend !!

Mr Martin - 6T - We have been making big books for keystage 1 this week in celebration of World Book Day. We've been doing a lot of science as well in preparation for SAT, we covered shadow and planets and we did a lesson on stamens and stigmas (for all those children who haven't learnt about them yet, it's the male and female part of a flower.) Mr Martin has been poorly this week so we have enjoyed the company of Mrs Cornish, Mrs Mcloughlan and Mr Bird. Get well soon Mr Martin!

Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6HC - We has had a very busy week. On Wednesday we spent a lot of time designing, making and evaluating maths board games as it was World Maths Day. Thursday was International Book Day and we made big books for the Reception classes. We will be sharing these with reception children next week some time. Next Wednesday we will be starting to make dough for our gingerbread houses.

I do remember saying that I would add a handful of pictures, well there were so many good ones, apart from Miss Slann showing us her monster face, that I added some more. I hope you enjoyed them.

They say a picture says 1000 words, so I need not say anymore apart from......
