Week 7 Spring Term
by
Mr Duff
on Fri 29 Feb 2008 03:13 PM GMT
With World Maths Day next Wednesday and World Book Day next Thursday, there has been lots of activities in preparation for this.
The posters and bookmarks are now complete and there has been lots of children logging on to Mathletics and having online maths battles with other children from all around the world.
I absolutely love Mathletics and many of the children have either been given their log in details already or will get them next week. The website is www.WorldMathsDay.com and it is very addictive. Miss Bernard called me a "big kid", how rude, but of course she is 100% right !!
So what else has been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School this week?
Miss Wakeford - RW - This week, RW have been continuing with our topic of ‘growing’. We have turned our role play into a garden centre and have been looking at the human life cycle. We sequenced life cycle pictures, brought in and discussed pictures of us as babies, drew self portraits and wrote about what we wanted to be when we grew up! We have been reading captions in class using our phonics to blend the words and then matched the captions to pictures. We are looking forward to next week’s World Maths day on Wednesday and World book day on Thursday! Don’t forget to get sponsored for your reading on your sponsor forms!! There is a prize for the most money raised!!
Mrs McIntosh - RM - This week we have started a new topic of Growing/Life cycles and have particularly looked at humans. The children have also been practicing writing sentences. They are very good at writing words but tend to miss out important words "I went shops" instead of "I went to the shops"......they have improved this week! Next week is busy! On Wednesday we have World Maths Day and on Thursday World book day. Have a great weekend!
Mrs Barrington - 1B - What a week! Class 1B have been finding out about different light sources in science. They know all about the sun, moon and stars. In numeracy we looked at 3D shapes and their properties. For literacy we have been reading stories from other cultures and particularly enjoyed Rainbow Bird by Eric Maddern which come from Australia. The children worked hard on their Mother's Day cards and l hope you like their personal messages.
Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - A fantastic week! We have been very confident with our learning about 3D shapes, thinking about faces, edges and corners. We have been thinking about habitats as big as the Artic or as small as a single tree and we have each been authors and illustrators, because we have written our own books about the life cycle of a butterfly. I am also particularly pleased with everyones behaviour in the classroom, listening carefully to my squeaky voice!
Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello everybody! This week has been fun.The children have been looking at life cycles and writing their own non-fiction books on The Life Cycle of Butterfly. They have worked really hard on them and added some beautiful illustrations.
We have also had fun looking at 3D shape and describing them. Their use of mathematical language has been brilliant!
We are all looking forward to World Maths and Book Day next week. There will be lots of exciting things going on. We have invited grown ups in on both days and we are looking forward to seeing them. We have asked people in to play games on World Maths Day and to read or hear readers on World Book Day. Don't forget to sign up to the World Maths Day website children to play Mathletics, it's at, www.worldmathsday.com
Enjoy your weekend! Miss Bernard
Mrs Peacher - 3P - This week we have been doing a writing project on Monsters Inc. and the children seem to have really enjoyed it, especially the boys which is fantastic. Well done to Sam for designing a fantastic monster which earnt him student of the week. We have also been looking at the artist Escher and re-creating some of his tesselating patterns. Please don't forget the trip to Hadleigh Country Park on 17th March.
Miss Slann - 3S - What a grrrrreat week week we've had in Year 3 this week! All of our work has been based on Monsters Inc which has been great fun. We have studied the main monster characters and then desingned our own super scary/ friendly ones. We have learnt a lot about how to use adjectives to describe a characters looks and personality. Well done you have created some lovely work! We also worked really hard to make your mother's day cards, I hope you like them and have a peaceful, relaxing Sunday!!!! Remember your last chance to buy Sorts Relief socks is on Monday!!!!!
Miss Bolton - 4B - I don't think you can ever have a fully 'normal' week at Darlinghurst. There's always something extra and exciting going on! This week has been the build up to World Book Day, so we designed book marks ready for next weeks competition. I think we have some super designs and potential winners in 4B! We also made Mothers Days cards, so hopefully they will take pride of place at home on Sunday :o) We've really got the hang of capacity work too this week. The extra lessons have worked and I've heard more pennies dropping each day.
Next week will be another fun week with World Maths Day on Wednesday and World Book Day on Thursday. The whole days will be dedicated to the subjects. It should all be good fun...with lots of learning thrown in!
Mr Bird / Mrs Amran - 4AB - This week has marked the introduction of touch typing skills for our class and the children who have been involved so far have enjoyed the challenge. We look forward to the time when they will be able to type all their I.T. work at incredible speed. Whilst on the topic of I.T., it is worth mentioning that on Thursday the children saw the results of all their hard work on Excel when they produced some fantastic science graphs. They demonstrated some excellent listening skills whilst learning the process involved.
Following their introduction to geography topic, they have all become much more aware of the causes and levels of sound pollution in the classroom and around the school. The investigation they have started has led to a real awareness of noise and they were a little surprised to find just how much their voices can influence the results.
Please encourage your children to make a special effort with their reading next week and you will be welcome to join us for the first session ( 9.00 am - 10.00 am ) on Thursday 6th March to help us mark World Book Day. In the event that you are able to come in, let either of the teachers know so that arrangements can be made for you to read or listen to the children.
Mrs Johnston - 5J - Another great week for 5J. The science exhibition went very well with all the visitors impressed with the projects - both them amount of effort that had gone into them and the amount of learning that had taken place.
The children are really excited about starting work on ancient Greece. Do ask them about the difference between the Athenians and the Spartans. Next week we will be looking at the Trojan Horse.
We have also been learning about fables and written our own. The children are good at seeing the moral or learning opportunity in a variety of situations.
World Maths Day - I have registered the children on the web site and asked them to play the game for homework. This will really help their mental maths as well as being tremendous fun. Look out or they will be beating you!
Mr Duff - 5D - A very busy week in 5D has left me wondering where the week has gone! You have produced some fantastic fables, which I am sure Aesop would have been proud of himself! Planted seeds to see where they germinate the best. Held a very successful and impressive science exhibition. Started our table tennis coaching and made something for a special event this weekend, I will say no more. We have also been trying to beat the world, literally, at Mathletics!! What a superb game!! Don't forget this is your homework as well.
Next week, World Maths Day and World Book Day, how great is that !
I must also add that you all did an excellent job writing the News and Views this week. You thought of what to write and went off and did it, a huge well done!!
Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6HC - We have had another week of revision which has gone very well. The children are well into a routine and are enjoying themselves. We are starting to gather sweets for our gingerbread houses and we look forward to making them in the next two weeks. This weeks creation story was that from the Islamic religion. Next week we will be finding out about the Budist creation story. All of the children in 6HC would like to wish their mothers a happy mothers day and promise to clean up around the house, cut the fire wood, paint the house, polish the car, wash and fold the washing, shampoo the carpet and clean the oven.
This half term is flying by, but you know what they say about time flying when you are having fun, and by the looks of things, there is a lot of that going on at our school.
Enjoy your Mothers Day weekend

Week 6 Spring Term
by
Mr Duff
on Fri 22 Feb 2008 03:53 PM GMT
The visitors to the Darlinghurst BLOG are at an all time high !
We now have double the amount of visitors we did when it was first launched in September, so a big thank you for your continued and growing support.
However, if you do know someone that has been living in the Brazilian rainforest and doesn't know about it, please be sure to mention it to them and get them hooked as well !
Last thing before I let you know how "International Week" went at Darlinghurst I will ask anyone that enjoys the BLOG, to let us know via the guestbook on our website.
All comments and feedback about the BLOG, or anything else to be honest, is greatly received !

So what did "International Week" have in store for the children of Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?
Miss Wakeford - RW - As part of International Week, RW have had fun learning about France and speaking French! We have revisited colours and numbers in French, located France and the United Kingdom on world maps, compared the similarities and differences between our flags, coloured in French flags and made our own in the ICT suite, learnt French songs, shared French books and have also tried lots of French food ranging from croissants and sweet pancakes to French toast and pate! A great big thank you to Mrs Haywood who came into our class on Friday and spoke to the children about France. We are looking forward to next week, when we will be starting our new topic, ‘Growing’.
Mrs McIntosh - RM - This week RM have been looking at different countries, mainly France. The children have been learning about food, clothes, the weather and how far it is from us here in Essex! On Friday we even had some French Toast and Pate! Next week we will be starting our Growing/Life-Cycle topic. Have a great weekend everyone!
Mrs Barrington - 1B - This week has been international week at Darlinghurst. Year 1 have been learning all about China. The children can now locate the United Kingdom and China on a map which is very clever. We have made Chinese lanterns and our own Willow pattern plates. The children really liked The Willow Pattern story and produced some super literacy work describing the main events from the story. We have listened to lots of Chinese music although it did tend to make us go a little strange after a while. On Thur we made our own dragon mask head and even had a taste of some Chinese food. If your children now wish to visit The Great Wall, please don't blame me!
Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello everybody!
We have had a lovely week back after half term, it has really flown! We have had Chinese Week in years 1 and 2. In our class we have made Chinese lanterns and dragon puppets, listened to Chinese music, found China on Google Earth, which was great fun, and wrote character descriptions in the form of passports for characters from a story from China called "The Fish Basket Goddess".The children also did some brilliant role based on this story. We also acted out role-plays for "The legend of Nia", which is the story detailing why people celebrate New Year in China and which also signifies why red is considered to be a lucky colour. We used musical instruments to make lots of noise to scare away monsters and bad spirits!
In Class 2/1B next week we are looking at Life Cycles in Literacy and publishing our own non-fiction books about the life cycle of a caterpillar. We will be looking at how non-fiction books are organised. For example, looking at headings and sub-headings and thinking about why they are organised in this way. So it would be great if you could find out about life cycles for yourselves, children and look at any non-fiction books you may have at home to see how they are organised. This links with our Science, which all about Plants and Animals this term. We will be looking at habitats for animals that live in our local area and why a particular habitat is suited to a particular animal.
In Numeracy we are investigating 3D shape and their properties. Children, see if you can find any 3D shapes around your home or local environment. Think about their properties, are they straight, curved, how many edges or corners?
Well, that is all for now. Have a lovely weekend!! - Miss Bernard
Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - We have decided that Chinese New Year is very interesting and fun too. We have read two traditional Chinese stories and made a character profile about our favourite character, we have made a pictograph of our Chinese Year simbols and we have made puppets of dragons and lions, red and gold lanterns to keep monsters away from our classroom ( I hope it works!) and had a go at designing our own Willow Pattern plates, although this we found challenging.
Miss Slann - 3S - What a week we have had learning about the environment and how to save our planet. We have looked at the effects of different kinds of pollution on the planet and how we can stop this in the future. We have also looked at deforestation and how this affects the wildlife in the Amazon jungle. You have had great week of making things, being real researchers and scientists so well done. Oh and what a fantastic jungle display you created today with the help of Mrs Jones and Miss Wise - super!!! A big thanks also to Mrs Cornish, Mrs Chatterton and Mrs McLauchlan for holding the fort this week as I have been away a lot - thank you all!
Mrs Peacher - 3P - In class 3P this week we have been investigating different conservation issues such as traffic pollution, recycling and endangered animals. We went up the road and carried out a traffic survey. We were all shocked at the amount of cars and buses on the road. We did not see many padestrians or bikes. We also carried out a survey looking into how people travel to school. We were pleased to find that most children walk although we feel too many people still use their cars.
Miss Bolton - 4B - We have thrown themselves into International Week this week and been learning all about India. We've all tried some Indian food, found out about the Taj Mahal and acted out the story of Rama and Sita. Maths this week has been challenging from all sides. I think we're going to need another week on capacity work to get all those pennies to drop!
I'm going to take this opportunity to thank all of you supporting us with reading and homework at home. Half the class now are reading to an adult at least 3 times a week and those children are really starting to show improvements.
Next week we are back to our regular timetable and don't forget.....PE is now on a Monday, so lets try and remember those kits.
Mr Bird + Mrss Amran - 4A/B - Following an eventful end to last half term the children got into the spirit of International Week and have increased their knowledge of India accordingly. They enjoyed experiencing a taste of indian cuisine at the beginning of the week followed by using their IT skills to research areas of interest about the country.
The week ended with the children being immersed in the culture and traditions of India when we were fortunate enough to be visited by two parents who gave some fascinating presentations regarding traditional dress and customs.Thank you both for a truly informative morning.
Mrs Johnston - 5J - Bonjour, tout le monde!
We've had a great week linking our lessons to France. We learnt a traditional French game about a ferret in the woods which involved passing a bead around a piece of string. We had lots of fun with this and 'il court, il court, le furet' is stuck in Mrs Johnston's head for ever! We also used this for our morning aerobic warm up.
The highlight of the week, though, was the French breakfast. The children ate bread without plates and drank their hot chocolate from bowls!
Science revision: What does MRS NERG stand for?
Mr Duff - 5D - Bonjour from a very French 5D ! We have thoroughly enjoyed International Week and most lessons have had a link to France somewhere. Ranging from a traditional French game in PSHE to making an ICT presentation to send our French link school in Lazarches. Outside of this we have learnt a huge amount of information about finding the area of squares, rectangles, right-angled triangles and even some very strange looking 2D shapes. Not only that we also know how to find their perimemeters as well !! Table tennis will start this Wednesday but there were not to many disappointed children that it got cancelled this week as we had a fantastic hockey lesson. Your skills were superb and I thouroughly enjoyed watching the team matches we had, well done !
Anyway, we are looking at "time" next week in maths which also includes timetables. So if you are catching a bus or a train this weekend please take a minute to read the timetable !
Remember to read as many times you can, you are doing a great job, keep it up !
Mr Martin - 6M - this week has been week 1 in our ten week build up to the sats exams! the children have been working flat out in the core subjects (maths, english and science). in science we've been investigating electricity; notation, circuit diagrams, tesning and circuits, classification of conductors and insulators and safety. next week we start the exciting topic of designing and constructing gingerbread houses.
Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6AH - We have had our first week of SATs revision this week and all has gone well. In RE we have learnt how the world was created according to people of the Hindu faith. We have started researching ginger bread houses and begun compiling our mood boards. We look forward to next weeks PE as we are learning how to play Volleyball. Well done to Penny and Toby who both received student of the week in Assemly. Second week of revision next week, BRING IT ON!!!!
Well I dont think I need to add much to the bottom of this as the above says it all.
What a superb and successful week it has been !!
Oh, I must mentioned that I heard the Parents and Toddler group / Little Darlings that started this week went well.
So if you missed it and would like to come next week you can find more details below.
Enjoy your weekend

Week 5 Spring Term
by
Mr Duff
on Fri 08 Feb 2008 05:29 PM GMT
What a great week to end half term on !
First we had lots of visitors from Oslo in Norway. They came and had a good look around our school and were very complimentary about what they saw.
Then on Friday we had "bring a mum to school day" !
Both days were fantastic and not only that there was many more things going on as well !
Here is what else has been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School
Miss Wakeford - RW - We have had a really fun week learning the correct names for the letters of the alphabet, visiting Westcliff Library on Tuesday and then having lots of visitors on Friday for ‘Bring A Mum to School Day’. Miss Wakeford and Miss Porter would like to thank everybody for their help and support this week and want to say a big well done to the children for being so very well behaved. Have a safe and enjoyable half term and we’ll see you on the 18th!.
Mrs McIntosh - RM - I want to start off by saying how proud all you parents should be of class RM - because on Tuesday they walked all the way to Westcliff library without a moan or groan, behaved brilliantly and sensibly whilst there and then walked all the way back again! I certainly was very proud!! In the afternoon, Mrs Cooper made pancakes with both the reception classes and they all got to taste one. The classroom smelt lovely!!
We have come to the end of our "Fairy story" topic and will be having an "International week" the first week back after half term and then it will be "Growing/life cycles" after that.
I hope everyone has a great and restful holiday! Mrs M
Mrs Barrington - 1B - Well, what a busy week we've all had. Class 1B ended their work on traditional stories by reading The Gingerbread Man. Then on Thursday we made and decorated our very own Gingerbread Men. We were very lucky none of them ran away. In numeracy we have been learning to recognise different coin amounts. The children played shops and used real coins. On Friday we had lots of ladies visit our class for Bring a Mum to School. We even made more cakes. Thanks for all the help ladies.
Mrs Barrington is exhausted now and needs a long rest. See you next term.
Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - We have been enjoying reading poetry books to each other this week and have made our own class poetry book as well. We have had fun learning about accurate weighing using balances and scales and telling the time using analogue and digital clocks. Have a great holiday everyone. I am already looking forward to coming back for International Week, finding out about Chinese New Year!
Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello children!
I have been really impressed with your poetry reading and writing this week. You have been really inspired by our topic, "The Sea". Those of you that learned poems off by art and recited them to the class are amazing. To learn all those words and bravely stand up in don't of the class to say them is fantastic. They should be on the school website shortly for you all to listen to shortly , how exciting!
We have also been covering measuring in Maths by investigating Weight and Time. The children always enjoy practical activities, weighing items and trying to guess weights and finding things that weigh 1kg have been very enjoyable. I also told the children that they have been the best class that I have taught to read the time on the half hour. There is a brilliant time game to play on our website called "Hickory Dickory Dock" that we had great fun playing. Try playing it at home children.
This is the last week of our "Lighthouses" topic. We will miss investigating this topic it has been great fun to do. However, next have term we will be finding out all about China in our International Week which, I'm sure will be equally interesting and fun.
In Maths during that week we will be doing Data Handling, using block graphs and pictograms.May be you could collect data at home among your family eg. favourite food, TV programmes etc and make block graphs or pictograms from the information that you collect children?
Hope you all have a fabulous week off. I'm off to Madrid tomorrow for the weekend. Will tell you all about it when I see you after the holidays.
Miss Slann - 3S - Well what a teethy week we've had, learning and investigating about what causes decay and how we can stop it! We have set an experiment up for over the holidays and will be looking at the effects, coke and orange juice have on teeth! We also saw how well we clean our teeth as we used disclosing tablets which showed us where the plaque forms! We found out that some of us need to clean our teeth more thoroughly!
We had a great time with our mum's and gran's on Friday and made some super cakes, had our hair plaited and had lots of fun! Thanks for coming in and helping us. Have a lovely, relaxing half term and remember to do some research about conservation!!!
Mrs Peacher - 3P - This week class 3P have been completing their teeth and eating project. We used disclosing tablets to see how bacteria lives on our teeth. Some children went home with very pink toothbrushes! We also made our healthy sandwiches which were delicious. Thankfully there were not too many strange ingredients in the end. Thank you to all of the mums for coming in on Friday and working so hard. The children had a lovely day and it was very relaxing for Mrs Peacher and Mrs Jones!
Miss Bolton - 4B - A busy last week of this half term has been had. Lots of 'finishing off' sessions have been had! We are a little sad to be finishing off our Ancient Egypt topic though but now looking forward to the next one. When we return, the first week back is International Week and due to problems with the South African school, we are now paired instead with a school in India - the one Mrs Peacher visitied last term. You can find a link to it on the school website: go to International Links on the home page.
Our next main topic is Geography based and called 'Improving the Environment'.
The children have some half term homework too: Literacy will be focussing on Fantasy stories and we would like the children to bring in examples of these books/stories. They don't have to read them (unless they want to!), just find and bring in. There is a note coming home explaining more. We would also like the children to find anything Indian or about India that will compliment our International week work.
Thank you to all the mums who visited us for 'Bring a mum to school day'. Hope you all have a good half term
Mrs Amran + Mr Bird - 4AB - Following another busy start to the week we were fortunate to have some interesting visitors to the school. Our guests, teachers from from Oslo, joined us for a very enjoyable and slightly damp session about capacity. The children shared their experiences with them and were keen to find out about Norway. Later that same day Mrs Valencia, a teacher from Southend High, worked with the class on the French alphabet. The results certainly impressed her and the children were keen to demonstrate their new found knowledge.
The end of this half term has been marked by the culmination of the children's efforts regarding their Ancient Egyptian topic. Friday provided the perfect opportunity to involve Mums and Nans in a production process which resulted in the creation of some lovely topic books.
Thank you to all those who were able to attend.
Mrs Johnston - 5J - Phew!! What a week! We had so much fun in our space station this week, dressing up, writing plays, poems and exciting stories and non-chronological reports using PowerPoint. Well done to everyone for making this half-term such a success. I just hope the paint comes off the window!! A big thank you to all the mums and nans for coming in today. A lot of learning took place on both sides, we definitely have some budding florists and artists among the class. 5J also enjoyed card making, learning new games, seeing how a French plait is made as well as making their clay pots which were of a very high standard.
Have a wonderful half-term. Remember your PE kit for indoor and outdoor PE after half-term, also pictures or a little information about Grenoble or France and Greece.
Bonnes vacances.
Mr Duff - 5D - This time last year I was quite new to the school and when we did "bring a mum to school day" I was not quite sure what to expect. So I thought it wouldn't be a problem to get some lessons squeezed into the day. What a mistake that was ! This year I completely changed my way of thinking and the whole day was lead by the children and mums (plus two nans). This worked much better and from now on that's how I will be doing it !!
So can I say a huge thank you to all the mums (and two nans) that came in and either ran an activity themselves or helped on others. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and so did I ! Same time next year?
A quick well done to 5D for a super half term. Have a great week off, enjoy yourselves and I will see you in a week.
Don't forget to read as much as you can and also find out some facts about France and Greece !
So half the school year has gone but what a fantastic one it has been !!
Enjoy the week off and we will see you bright and early on Monday 18th February.
Be safe

Week 4 Spring Term
by
Mr Duff
on Fri 01 Feb 2008 03:05 PM GMT
Where has this half term gone? Only a week left and we have had half the school year already ! Frightening !!
So what new and exciting this have been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School?
Well for a start we are going to introduce our own "mother and toddler group". So if you a member of the school community and have pre-school and nursery aged children, this could be for you ! It starts after half term and more details can be found on this weeks News and Views. Oh, one last thing the group will be called "Little Darlings", which I think is a superb name. Well done Mrs Reynolds for thinking of that.
So, what else has happened?
Miss Wakeford - RW - This week, RW have been looking at the alternative ways of making the ‘ie’ phoneme: pie, cry and light. We have studied the Traditional tale, The Little Red Hen, made and painted salt dough loaves of bread and made and ate our own bread rolls. (Some of us even had butter and jam on them!) We are very much looking forward to our trip to the library on Tuesday and also to Bring A Mum to School Day on Friday.
Mrs McIntosh - RM - We have been looking at the story of the Little red hen this week and have really enjoyed it. We have acted out the story and even made the bread yesterday! They enjoyed tasting their bread with some butter and jam in the afternoon!!
Next week is the last week on traditional tales and we have organised a trip to the library - so hopefully the weather will be kind to us!
Have a great weekend! Mrs M
Mrs Barrington - 1B - The children in class 1B have had DOUBLE TROUBLE this week in numeracy. We have spent most of the week looking at doubles. They now know how to double money, which could come in handy. For dance we acted out Jack and the Beanstalk the children thought it hysterical with Mrs Haley being the giant. I'm surprised you couldn't hear their screams. Next week we are going to look at the traditional story 'The Gingerbread Man.'
Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hi children!
Well done from another great week. You have been really enthusiastic about finding right angles around the classroom and have been excellent at finding words with suffixes "ing" and "ed".You have showed good understanding. I was also very pleased with the way that you persevered with clockwise and ant- clock wise turns, which you found to do difficult at first.
Next week we are looking at poetry about the sea and writing our own poems. So could you look at some poetry books and bring your favourite poems in please? In numeracy we are looking at measuring using weights and scales. It would be great if you could practise weighing at home or if you go shopping with your parents.
Thanks, Miss Bernard
Mrs Dutton - 2/1D -This week the children in class 2/1 D have been concentrating on past, present and future verbs and adding the suffixes 'ed' and 'ing'- this may sound boring, but we had fun doing the activities, as it involved alot of acting out 'doing' words so that we could understand. We have also been moving alot to understand right angles and clockwise and anti clockwise turns. We are now much fitter than we were at the start of the week!
We have continued finding out about Grace Darling by making a time line of her life and acting out being reporters interviewing her and asking questions about how she helped to rescue 9 people. Being in Year 2 is great fun!
Mrs Peacher - 3P - Class 3P have been working on their fairy tales again this week which are almost finished. We have also designed some healthy sandwiches in DT with some interesting combinations including blackberries and cheese & strawberries, chocolate and ham!!! I will let you know what they tasted like next week. We also have some new members in our class in the form of tadpoles which have been donated by Freddie. There are ten of them at the moment and they are in the tadpole stage but I will keep you posted on their progress.
Miss Slann - 3S - We have worked very hard this week writing our alternative fairy tales! Some of them are very different to the originals and are quite funny in places. We have Snow Black and the 7 Hamsters, The Two Ninja Pigs, The Three Little Elvis Pigs to name but a few!! We will be finishing these next week making sure that we have interesting endings and will type up our finished versions. We have alos been studying Mother Teresa and the work that she did around the world for the poor. We have produced some excellent charcoal drawings and are in the process of presenting our research about her life - well done for working so well in your groups!
Remember to bring in your sandwich ingredients next week and permission slips for the teeth experiment. Oh and try and write a letter to the tooth fairy to beg for some teeth back for our experiment!!! Have a good weekend.
Mr Bird and Mrs Amran - 4AB - The children have been using their creative skills to produce a number of pieces of work for our classroom displays this week. Similes have cascaded from their minds like a mountain waterfall. They found it a bit of a challenge to design and produce moving pictures, with an Egyptian theme, for design and technology but some interesting constructions are now close to completion.
Parent's evening went well and all the children were clearly happy about their parent's reaction to the event.
Next week promises to be a little different, with our guests arriving from Norway on Thursday and 'Bring a Mum to school day' on Friday. Our children are looking forward to sharing their classroom with all of the visitors and this will provide the opportunity for them to share the results of some of their hard work. 4 A/B
Miss Bolton - 4B - What a busy week we've had in 4B. We have been looking at symmetry in 2D shapes, similies in poetry. The class wrote some lovely rainbow poems containing similies - these will be displayed in the classrrom to brighten our room up and hopefully make us forget the rain and gloom outside! We have also been working on a full Tutankhamun display for the corridor, concluding everything we have leant and seen the past few weeks. Don't forget next Friday is 'Bring a mum to school day'. All mums, aunties, nans welcome to come in to 4B for the morning.
Mrs Johnston - 5J - Well done, 5J, you are becoming responsible for your own learning, knowing how to learn and still have lots of fun. We are all looking forward to turning our room into a space station next week. Keep thinking about how you can contribute. What props or costume do you need for drama? Be inventive! Can anyone help? We are on the lookout for a child-size box to turn into a sleeping chamber! Life certainly isn't dull in 5J!
Mr Duff - 5D - We have set a new record ! Exactly half the class read at home to an adult EVERY night this week, well done ! Plus the other half of the class still read three or four times, which I am very pleased with. Your reading skills are greatly improving and you are becoming a class full of book worms !
To enhance this even futher it would be good if some of you wrote a book review to go with this and added to our new webpage. You can find more details about this here. Please keep up the superb work and see if we can break that record.
Next week, bring a mum to school day. Well it doesn't actually have to be your mum, nans and aunties etc are also welcome ! Have a good weekend.
Mrs Chatterton and Mr Hautler - 6HC - We have been busy writing diaries in literacy, most children completed this as a homework assignment as well. 6HC also complered a diary for geography- a mountaineers diary.
Numeracy has been based on time in terms of 24 hour clock, differences in time and months( ask them if they know the rhyme)
6HC have completed an evapouration experiment on T towels!!!
They have also completed some super drawings of montain ranges.
They all became very competative in a mini game of hockey- I think we have some budding stars.
Mr Martin - 6M - Time waited for no man... or boy or girl as we have been hard at work investigating time and time problems. Next week we will continue this topic and will be having an indepth exploration of timetables. So don't be late!
Next Wednesday we will be cooking pancakes, so please bring an apron (or an overshirt) to protect your uniform.
Also, don't forget your Mountain Projects were due in last week...
So as we enter the last week of the half term, please remember it is Bring a Mum to School day next Friday.
It would be great to see as many of you as possible and don't forget nans, aunties etc are also welcome !!!
Enjoy the weekend
