Click here to view, don't miss it !!

Mrs McIntosh - RM -
Reception have a had a very busy week! The Christmas nativity went brilliantly and we are so proud of all the children for all their hard work and wonderful singing. We hope our parents enjoyed it. We have all been doing lots of Christmas activities and getting messy! It's great! Don't forget our party is on Monday afternoon (children can wear party clothes all day on Monday) and school closes at 12.30pm (prompt!!) on Wednesday.....HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Miss Wakeford - RW - Miss Wakeford and Miss Porter were extremely proud of the children performing in their nativity. Everybody did a fantastic job and sang beautifully. Thank you once again to all the parents for your help and support with costumes, the learning of the lines and also with your attendance at the performances!

Miss Barrington - 1B - Class 1B have been busy writing about Father Christmas.   They produced some very descriptive writing and it is now on display in our corridor.  We also did some great work on traditional Christmas food.  As you can imagine we are all very excited and looking forward to the Christmas party on Monday.  Big thanks for all the party food offers.

Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Happy Christmas! In 2/1 B this week, we have been doing lots of fun Christmas activities. We have made some beautiful snow scene calendars, masks for our party and Cinderella pantomime and Christmas cards. In Numeracy we have also been designing and making games based on Cinderella, which has been great fun! I was really pleased with the way the children performed, particularly on Tuesday night. It has been hard work putting it all together and it is great to see such a fabulous end product.

Next term, along with the other Y2/1 class we are doing a 2 week topic based on "The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch", linking with our Science topic, Electricity. We are also looking at the story of Grace Darling in History, which will also link Literacy and Science. Should be very interesting!
Have a great Christmas holiday everybody! See you in the new year.

Mrs Dutton - 2/1B - What  a  busy  week  for  everyone!  We  have  enjoyed  performing  our  scene  of  Cinderella  and  wish  to  say  thank  you  to  all  our  families  who  have  helped  us  with  our  costumes  and  who  have  watched  us  perform  during  this  week.  We  have  also  concentated  well  to  understand  more  about  multiplication  using  bars  of  chocolate.  We  have  worked  with  a  partner.  to  make  up  our  own  games  about  snowmen  or  Christmas,  writing  the  rules  to  show  players  how  to  win  and  designing  and  making  the   board  and  counters.  Next  week  we  are  looking  forward  to  playing  each  others  board  games  to  see  if  they  work!

Miss Slann - 3S - We've had a fantastic time this week being very creative and dramatic! We have been making some wonderful cards showing the skyline of Bethlehem with lots Christmas glitter! We have also finished our art based on Andy Warhol which will be displayed in the corridor leading to the KS2 block. Finally I would like to say a huge well done to all of Year 3 for an amazing effort in the school play, it was worth all of the hard work and rehearsing! Thank you all for learning your lines and speaking with great, big voices (especially our poorly Prince Harry!). A final thanks to the parents for providing all of the costumes and I hope you enjoyed the show!
I hope you all have a fun filled Christmas and looking forward to a super New Year!!
P.S. Don't forget to practice you times tables and read to an adult over the holidays!!!!

Mrs Peacher - 3P - Class 3P have been learning about christmas this week and have made lots of lovely pressies and decorations for their parents. A big thank you for all of the support for the christmas production and an even bigger well done to the kids who were all fantastic! Merry Christmas, see you next year!

Miss Bolton - 4B - This week has been full of pantomine magic! 4B have done themselves proud and performed brilliantly. I can do nothing this week but smile and be proud of them all dressed so smartly for their ballroom scene and acting, singing and dancing their socks off. My only worry is our 2 male ugly sisters seem to have quite taken to their dresses and make-up! Our year 4 party will be on Tuesday afternoon next week and 4B have been asked to bring in savory food, drinks and paper plates. If you send anything in in a container and you want it back, please put your names on it. Thank you!

Mrs Amran + Mr Bird - 4AH - This week provided the children with the opportunity to see the results of all their hard work preparing for the Cinderella production. Their enthusiasm never faltered throughout the three performances and it became apparent that there may well be a future on the stage for some! We are holding the class party on Tuesday and as 4A/B and 4B are doing this as a joint venture, it would be useful to clarify the situation regarding contributions of food and drink. 4A/B have been asked to provide, biscuits, cakes and a selection of soft drinks. Parents, If you are able to help with any of these items, or paper cups and plates, please send them in by Tuesday morning.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who were able to attend the performances and provide costumes.

Mrs Johnston - 5J - Phewww! What a week!  Lots of fun - lots of hard work - lots of headaches!
Well done, everyone, great performances - have a good rest over the weekend so we can enjoy the last few days of term.

Mr Duff - 5D - What a fantastic week ! You were superb in the production. Thank you all for coming back in the evenings, remembering your lines and what you needed to do, plus making it a pleasure for me. It was a long week but it was well worth it !! Overall this Autumn term has been great. You have come into Year 5 with a super attitude and even though we lost a few faces and gained some new ones, 5D is very much the class you were last year, which is a good thing !! I am more than pleased with what I have seen so far and we are perfectly poised for next term. Hang on though, we have something very important before then, Christmas !!! Have a fantastic time, be safe and I hope Santa bring you lots of prezzies ! Don't forget we have our Christmas dinner and party on Tuesday and that we finish early on Wednesday (12.30pm). See you all in 2008 !!!

Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6HC - Class 6HC have had a very busy week. They have performed in three christmas productions and have been rushing to finish off everthing for the end of the year. This week the whole class made christmas decorations out of gingerbread which can either be hung from a tree or eaten. We are all looking forward to our christmas party next week on Monday afternoon.

Mr Martin - 6T - Coming soon

Well that's the Autumn term finished, wow, where did that go !

Have a great Christmas, enjoy yourself, be safe and we will see you in the New Year !!

Enjoy
View Article  The Starfish Appeal

This Christmas the school has chosen to support the Starfish Appeal.

The Starfish Appeal aims to raise money to refurbish the Mountbatten Ward, the Paediatric Liver Unit in Kings College Hospital

This charity is very close to our hearts as Nayeem; a pupil of Darlinghurst has received two transplants at Kings and is currently recovering at home.

The staff will be donating money rather than sending Christmas cards to buy a Nintendo Wii for the children who will be spending this Christmas on the Mountbatten Ward,

Additionally, there will be an exit collection at each of the Christmas performances and the money raised will be donated to this worthwhile charity.

Please give generously…..thank you

Cinderella is in the building !! What else has been happening at Darlinghurst Primary and Nursery School this week ?

Reception - RW+ RM - RM and RW have continued rehearsing for their Christmas production this week. We are all looking forward to our dress rehearsal in front of the whole school on Monday, and then showing our play to our parents and families on Tuesday afternoon (2.30-3pm) and Wednesday morning (10-10.30am.) We have also produced some beautiful work this week for our Winter theme and have been learning the phonemes “ou” and “oi”.

Mrs Barrington - 1B - Where is the time going?  Class 1B are almost ready for the Cinderella performances next week.  Most of the woodland animal masks have been made and the children look super.  Please read our Christmas lists displayed on the front window.  Santa's grotto is now open and it amazing to see the children having such fun wrapping up an old Weetabix box.  In numeracy we made a shape Santa using 2D shapes.  Father Christmas is still ringing Mrs Barrington each evening at different times which the children have been great at telling me where the minute and hour hand should be.

Miss Bernard - 2/1B - Hello everybody! In class 2/1B we have been getting very excited about Christmas and all the fun things that are happening. The children and I really enjoyed watching the whole school performance, we thought it was fantastic! We have also been enjoying dressing up in our costumes. We have had fun making masks to go with them. Some of the children have also written some detailed recounts of The Christmas story this week, they were a great pleasure to read. As well as Christmas things we have also been doing multiplication and linking it with repeated add. We have done lots of counting in different steps and the children also worked in pairs to find answers to word problems.
Next week we are having a topic week based on our pantomime theme of "Cinderella". We are writing thinking about the characters and writing speech bubbles. We will also be writing invitations for our party. In Numeracy we will be designing games based on Cinderella. We are also making some shaped gingerbread Christmas biscuits. That's if we can fit it all in!!

Mrs Dutton - 2/1D - We  have  had a  very  busy  week  making  sure  that  we  are  ready  to  perform  our  scene  of  Cinderella.  Our  masks  are  finished,  most  of  the  costumes  are  ready  and  we  know  nearly  all  the  words  to  our  song!   We  have  also  been  concentrating  well  and  thinking more  about  multiplication  and  we  have  started  to  write  our  own  special  books  about  the  very  first  Christmas.  Well  done  everyone.

P.S.  We  did  have  a  special  Christmas  visitor  last  weekend!

Mrs Peacher - 3P - Class 3P have been practicing hard this week for the christmas performance and it is looking good! So good luck to all of the children for next week.

Mr Bird + Mrs Amran - 4AH - We would like to thank all the parents and guardians of the children in our class for responding so well to the request for costumes. The children have really enjoyed dressing up for two of the rehearsals this week and their behaviour throughout the preparation has been excellent.

With the countdown to the first public performance getting ever shorter, it has been possible to detect just a slight rise in the level of excitement at school! The children are really looking forward to showing you all the results of their hard work, even though we know that you are probably as familiar with their lines and songs as they are by now.
Finally we would like to thank you for allowing your children to bring in all sorts of wartime artefacts, they have been the source of discussion in various lessons. Unfortunately, owing to the fact that we are unable to display the items at present because of the need for a dedicated space, the presentation will now take place in January.

Miss Bolton - 4B - With Miss Bolton off most this week, the children were lucky enough to have Mrs McLauchlan ! 4B have thrown themselves into Theatre Land this week. Not only have they been acting their socks off for their scene in Cinderella, but they have also written their very own plays ! In small groups they wrote the play, then turned into a book including a set design. Well done 4B !

Mrs Johnston - 5J - A great week, 5J!  Rehearsals are going well, you know your lines and you have your costumes. We had a fantastic time being Victorians, sweeping chimneys, digging coal, working in factories and being beaten at school!  It was another good chance to dress up - what shall we do next?

Mr Duff - 5D - Would you have liked being at school during the Victorian times? I doubt it very much, the teachers were far too scary !! What a fantastic time you had on Thursday morning when the theatre company visited us and showed us what it was like during the Victorian era. You looked great, your behaviour was a superb example and you looked like you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves. The play rehearsals are going well and we are looking forward to performing it next week. Don't forget to turn up for both evenings, Tuesday and Thursday ! Last thing, please remember your oranges so we can make our Christingles. Have a super weekend !!

Mr Martin - 6M - We spread some Christmas cheer this week by inviting our grandparents to a special Christmas Bonanza event.   Guests were treated to a myriad of pursuits including a performance from the school dance troop and a Christmas Quiz.  The raffle tickets were selling like hot cakes!

Class members took full responsibility for organising the Bonanza, from writing the invitation letters right through to making table decorations.  This annual event gives the children an opportunity to give something back to the community while using their skills learnt throughout the year.

Mr Hautler + Mrs Chatterton - 6HC - This week we made potato latka in class. This was part of our RE for this week which was focused on Hanukkah. Foods cooked in oil are to remind the Jewish people of the oil that burned in the Temple for eight days.  Potato pancakes and doughnuts are both cooked in oil and enjoyed especially during Hanukkah.

Yet another fun packed week and another one to come next week !!!!

See you all at the opening night of Cinderella !

Have a relaxing weekend !!
